Shawn Gong
As a first-generation college graduate, Shawn’s journey from an underdeveloped region of China to the USA is a testament to his resilience and determination. He earned a bachelor’s in computer science from Sichuan University and two Master’s Degrees, one in Engineering Management from USC and an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology.
Shawn is devoted to promoting diversity, community, and innovation. As a product leader at Tinder, he helps global users find love and connection. He mentors minority founders as a product advisor and serves on the USC Viterbi School of Engineering Board, encouraging disadvantaged high school students to pursue engineering degrees. Additionally, he lectures at UCLA and Loyola Marymount University to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs. Shawn is also deeply engaged in addressing the climate crisis, advising on sustainable solutions for Los Angeles residents as a startup board member. He contributes to the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council, enriching content on diverse management and leadership.
Growing up, Shawn faced numerous obstacles and a lack of resources. He understands the challenges of achieving success from an underprivileged background. This personal experience fuels his passion for advocating for those most in need. He is dedicated to empowering others from underrepresented backgrounds to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.
Shawn enjoys connecting with nature and wildlife through surfing, skiing, scuba diving, horseback riding, and rock climbing. He also practices martial arts, gymnastics, ballet, and Latin dancing with his communities.
