Ray Mateo
Ray Mateo focuses his practice on criminal defense, internal corporate investigations, and complex civil litigation. Ray has extensive experience interacting with federal and state law enforcement agencies and regularly represents clients facing complicated immigration concerns. Prior to joining Calcagni & Kanefsky, Ray served as Deputy Attorney General for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Organized Crime Bureau. In his role as a trial attorney, Ray investigated and prosecuted high-profile racketeering, tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering matters as well as weapons- and narcotics-trafficking offenses. In recognition for his outstanding performance, Ray received awards from the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor and Division of Criminal Justice. Prior to his government service, Ray practiced at a prominent litigation boutique where he represented clients in immigration matters, criminal defense, and contract disputes. Ray began his legal career as the judicial law clerk for the Honorable Ronald D. Wigler, Presiding Judge for the Criminal Division, Superior Court, Essex County.
Ray is a member of the Harpur Law Council, a group of Binghamton University alum mentoring and supporting undergraduates who are considering law as a career. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and is an active member of both the Hispanic and Hudson Bar Associations. Ray graduated from Rutgers University School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree cum laude from Binghamton University.
