Alex Alvendia-Wienkers

Alex Alvendia-Wienkers (he/him) oversees the University of Southern California’s robust, highly selective recruitment and evaluation efforts for undergraduate international students. In conjunction with his primary role, Alex builds and maintains his professional currency through active participation and leadership in higher education professional associations and committees as a regular presenter, panelist, and keynote speaker for in-person and digital events around the world.

Additionally, in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the ensuing Black Lives Matter protests, Alex created his office’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Justice (DEIJ) Committee, assessing and dismantling racist admissions practices and replacing them with actively antiracist alternatives, in collaboration with University partners.

Alex holds a Master’s degree from USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and a Bachelor’s degree from the George Washington University. Prior to USC, Alex worked in the White House (Obama Administration), a publicly traded tech startup, and various undergraduate and graduate admissions programs.

In non-COVID times, you’ll find Alex with his husband — hiking with their dog son, Akira, or exploring the world: from mega-cities like Tokyo and New York to otherworldly, majestic natural wonders like Patagonia and Iceland.
