Luis R. Penalver is a member of the Executive Committee, Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and a partner in Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP’s corporate practice group.

Luis represents leading investment and commercial banks, institutional investment funds, and corporations in debt and equity securities transactions, bank financings, mergers and acquisitions and out-of-court debt restructurings. His practice also includes representation of both public and private companies in connection with general corporate and securities law matters. Luis is recognized as a notable practitioner in banking and capital markets by Euromoney’s IFLR1000 and listed in Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Lawyers guide and Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Dealmakers guide. His work has been recognized by Savoy Magazine who named Luis to its List of the Most Influential Black Lawyers.

Luis serves on the Board of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, where he is also the Chair of the Pension Committee. Luis previously served on the Board of the Harlem School of the Arts and the Board of the Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) and Luis was a member of the Securities Regulation Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Luis is a member of the firm’s Legal Recruiting and Workplace Environment Committees. He has practiced at Cahill since his graduation from Harvard Law School. He became a partner in 2002.
