Lydia Shih-Ying Hu

Lydia Hu joined Spectrum News in January 2018 as an investigative reporter.

Before NY1, Lydia was an investigative reporter and weekend evening anchor at WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama for more than two years. She earned a “Best in Broadcasting 2017” award from the Alabama Broadcasters Association for her story on a cruel internet meme that used the photo of a disabled Alabama toddler.

Lydia is thrilled to be back in New York City. She earned her Master’s Degree with honors from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and interned in WNBC’s investigative unit.

Lydia transitioned to journalism after five years practicing law in Baltimore. She earned her Juris Doctorate magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland College Park.

She is a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors.

In her free time, Lydia is usually walking the city streets flanked by her best friends, her husband and their two dogs.
