Barbara C. Smith is the Director of Human Resources at Weil. In this role, she provides executive leadership, strategic direction, planning, consulting and execution on all administrative staff related initiatives, specifically as it relates to recruitment, hiring, onboarding, talent development, training, organizational development and employee relations.

In addition to leading the HR department, Barbara is a member of Weil’s Diversity Committee and the Health and Well-being Committee. In these roles, she has helped Weil respond to the unprecedented and overlapping challenges of the past 18 months, ensuring that attorneys, staff and their families are fully supported and have access to an array of resources.

Barbara joined Weil as the Manager of Employee Relations before being promoted to Associate Director and ultimately Director of Human Resources. Prior to joining Weil, Barbara was an attorney at the Port Authority of NY & NJ, where she advised senior management and Human Resources on all areas of labor and employment law. She also served as Associate Director/Employment Counsel at Bear Sterns and a Judicial Law Clerk for the State of Connecticut.

Barbara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University and a Juris Doctor (JD) from Saint John’s University. She has served as Deputy Regional Director, Region II, of the National Bar Association and as Vice President, Housing, Yonkers Branch NAACP. She also was Regional Director, Northeast Region, National Black Law Students Association (1999-2000), and is a current member of the Advisory Board to the Regional Board. Her community service and volunteer activities include participating in Mocha Moms, an advocacy organization for mothers of color, MOBB (Moms of Black Boys) United, a nationwide organization dedicated to social change, and St. John’s University School of Law Alumni of Color Chapter.
