Richard Scott Brookshire III is a veteran of the United States Army, having served seven years as a Combat Medic (OEF ’11, 170th IBCT) and as a Senior Line Medic with the New York State Army National Guard’s 1-69th Infantry. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and holds a Master of Public Administration degree in Urban Politics and Governance from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. As a writer and social commentator, Richard’s work to date is centered on racial equity, economic justice, LGBT rights and national politics. In his current role at the Council of Urban Professionals (CUP), Richard manages programming for the esteemed CUP Leadership Institute, a dynamic professional development platform that supports CUP’s diverse membership in building the knowledge, skills and networks necessary to ascend to the highest levels of their respective industries.
