Mr. Tavarez is a Managing Director, Head of Emerging Markets FICC Sales for the Americas region at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Mr. Tavarez manages a team of sales professionals responsible for marketing global emerging markets fixed income products to the firm’s largest Institutional investor clients. His area of expertise include sovereign and corporate bonds, special situations and foreign exchange.

Mr. Tavarez has held a number of key positions during his 18 year career at the bank. From 1997-1999, Mr. Tavarez was the co-head of Merrill Lynch’s fixed income sales and distribution business in Sao Paulo, Brazil where he was responsible for building the firm’s Institutional sales business in the region. From 1998-2000, Mr. Tavarez worked as a corporate bond trader where he was responsible for secondary market making and proprietary risk taking in the Media, Telecommunications and Financial sectors in Latin America. Mr. Tavarez has held his current position since 2010.

Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. Tavarez held positions as a Management Consultant for both Hewitt Associates and KPMG. Mr. Tavarez holds a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Undergraduate School of Business. Additionally, he holds an MBA in Finance from Columbia University.

Mr. Tavarez is a member of the acquisitions committee for the Studio Museum of Harlem, Board member of the Council of Urban Professionals (CUP). In recognition of his accomplishments among Hispanic leaders in Finance, he has received awards from The Council of Urban Professionals, Alianza Dominicana, Latino Trendsetter Magazine and New Heights Youth, Inc.

Mr. Tavarez is married and resides in Manhattan, NYC with his wife Dr. Holly L. Phillips and daughters Olivia and Pascale.
